Jonan’s story

Every child regardless of his/her disability and background, deserves to be loved and cared for. Meet Jonan, a 5 year old twin boy who was born malnourished in the marginalized slum community of Kampala, Uganda, a country in East Africa.

After Jonan’s father saw that his poor wife had gave birth to a tiny baby, he furiously abandoned them and run away calling this little boy a devil. Without help from relatives, Jonan’s young and uneducated mother had to struggle spending days and nights looking for a job to make ends meet for her family which denied her time to effectively breastfeed her poor babies.

Despite Jonan’s health condition, it was hard to believe that their mother was leaving them helpless alone in the house for days without coming back home and always left them with no food. Jonan was very thin and needed special attention and treatment but their mom wasn’t willing to spend the whole fortnight with him. This forced us to bring Jonan at our orphanage in Kampala, Uganda.

At Vijana Heavens Foundation, Jonan is receiving the special care and attention he needs plus the nutritious food rich in proteins that he was missing. He loves smiling and clapping to his loving and caring little friends at our residential home. Though he’s not yet good at speaking, I am very glad that he can at least say out some words and he can mention everyone’s name at the home.

Everyone’s prayer at our home is that God stretches and strengthen Jonan’s bones so that he can be able to hold food in his hands and play hide and seek with those children at our home.

When Sheilah got a chance to step in class, she put all her effort to learning and be the best in her class and was able to get a full bursary as the best student every term which reduced on the risk of being sent back home for school fees which increased her chances of having a brighter future through education. After successfully completing high school, Sheilah decided to dedicate her time to help children struggling in their studies to catch up in math and literacy.
