Girls' Empowerment

It’s time to arm girls with the skills to negotiate and redefine what they are told is possible. At Vijana Heavens Foundation, we are committed to building a foundation for long-term gender equity and community development.

Girls' Empowerment

It’s time to arm girls with the skills to negotiate and redefine what they are told is possible. At Vijana Heavens Foundation, we are committed to building a foundation for long-term gender equity and community development.

The Challenge

In the slum communities of Kampala, girls and young women face significant social, economic, and cultural barriers that prevent them from realizing their full potential. These challenges include limited access to education, economic exclusion, poor menstrual health management, and lack of leadership opportunities. Many girls miss school due to inadequate menstrual hygiene resources, while others lack mentorship and guidance to navigate their futures. Their voices often go unheard in matters that directly impact their lives.

How We Help

By equipping girls with the skills, resources, and platforms they need, we aim to foster a generation of empowered women who can drive positive change in their communities.

Leadership skills training

We provide a safe space where a girl in our community connects with girls like herself to form a support system, as she gains skills, resources, and knowledge to transform their lives and communities.

Mentorship

We use role models to support adolescent girls and young women to reimagine their futures while equipping them with the skills they need to identify and apply for secure, fulfilling, and dignified employment opportunities.

Menstrual Health Management

We partner with individual donors and educators to provide vital menstrual health education, along with washable, long-lasting menstrual hygiene Kits to young girls who lack the means to buy them.

Advocacy

We provide girls with the platforms and resources they need to speak up for their rights in their homes, schools, and communities. Girls leave these designed programs better equipped to promote their needs.

Sheilah Nakatte

programs manager

Sheilah is a servant leader who is passionate about creating a world where every child regardless of his/her background has equal access to quality education. Growing up in desperate poverty, Sheilah had limited access to education, even though her single mother tried to find some piece of work of selling vegetables on the roadside, her monthly income couldn’t stretch enough to provide all the needs of her six poor children including paying their school fees on time. When Sheilah got a chance to step in class, she put all her effort to learning and be the best in her class and was able to get a full bursary as the best student every term which reduced on the risk of being sent back home for school fees which increased her chances of having a brighter future through education. After successfully completing high school, Sheilah decided to dedicate her time to help children struggling in their studies to catch up in math and literacy.
