Keeping all the children safe is at the heart of what we do at Vijana Heavens Foundation. In cases of abuse, our team does not settle until an immediate action is taken to identify and address reports of abuse and exploitation, and ensure the safety and well-being of the child/ren involved.

The Challenge

In Kampala’s slum communities, thousands of children live in extreme poverty and are at constant risk of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Without supportive family structures, many children often end up on the streets where they are vulnerable to trafficking, sexual exploitation, and violence. While Uganda has policies to protect children, enforcement remains weak at the grassroots level, and many families lack the knowledge and resources to care for their children effectively.

How We Help

At Vijana Heavens Foundation, we have seen firsthand that a safe and loving environment is essential for a child’s growth and we are committed to safeguarding every child’s right.

Temporary Shelter

We provide temporary shelter to children who have truly been orphaned, neglected, and abandoned as we work to place them with loving forever families, and keep them off the streets, and out of danger.

Strengthening families

Strong families equal to safer children. We support parents in slum communities with training, resources and services so they can nurture, respect, and protect their children from harm.

Prevention of Child Abuse

We focus on preventing violence against children from happening in the first place, responding to violence when it does occur, and restoring children who have been affected to a state of physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Partnering with Communities

We empower and collaborate with the whole communities to create a safe, supportive atmosphere for all children as we work with local leaders to challenge harmful traditions and promote positive norms that safeguard children.
