Skills Development

Education opens doors that last forever and at Vijana Heavens Foundation, we are committed to breaking barriers that hinder children and youth in slums from accessing it and create bright futures.

The Challenge

In Kampala’s slum communities, high unemployment rates and lack of practical skills hinder young people from achieving economic independence. Many adolescent girls and young women drop out of school due to financial constraints, early pregnancies, and social challenges, leaving them with limited opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. The increasing demand for skilled labor in fashion design, financial management, and digital literacy presents an opportunity to bridge the skills gap and foster economic resilience.

How We Help

We aim to equip young people with the technical skills, resources, and mentorship needed to secure employment, start businesses, and achieve long-term financial stability.

Vocational training

We provide technical training in tailoring and fashion design to out-of-school adolescent girls and young women to enable them to establish sustainable livelihoods and become catalysts for economic and social change.

Financial Literacy

We equip underprivileged youth  with practical financial management skills, empowering them to make informed financial decisions, achieve economic independence, and foster long-term financial stability.

Computer Literacy

We equip underprivileged young people with practical training on how to effectively use different computer components and make positive researches that contributes to their studies.

Start-up Kits

We provide essential tools and resources to underprivileged young people in slums communities to turn their skills into income-generating opportunities by launching small businesses and sustain their livelihoods.

Sheilah Nakatte

programs manager

Sheilah is a servant leader who is passionate about creating a world where every child regardless of his/her background has equal access to quality education. Growing up in desperate poverty, Sheilah had limited access to education, even though her single mother tried to find some piece of work of selling vegetables on the roadside, her monthly income couldn’t stretch enough to provide all the needs of her six poor children including paying their school fees on time. When Sheilah got a chance to step in class, she put all her effort to learning and be the best in her class and was able to get a full bursary as the best student every term which reduced on the risk of being sent back home for school fees which increased her chances of having a brighter future through education. After successfully completing high school, Sheilah decided to dedicate her time to help children struggling in their studies to catch up in math and literacy.
